All moms know the struggles with getting back into a beauty routine after having baby. Some say “Who cares, I have my baby…that’s all that matters!”; some say, “I’m too busy”; and some say, “A ponytail counts as having done my hair!” One reader writes in that is back in her groove with clothes and makeup but her hair has her stumped.

Jessica says:
“Help! My child is over a year old, and though I now wear makeup and nice clothes to work, I can’t seem to get my hair act together!
I have long hair. It is somewhere between wavy and curly, very thick, and frizzes easily. Pre-baby, I used to flat-iron a few times a week, and have gone back and forth between long layers and a much shorter look. These days I tend to wear it in a ponytail for lack of time/patience, though sometimes I put in an anti-frizz balm or gel and let it curl.
I haven’t had a haircut in many months (bad girl!).
I like my natural dark brown color, but have no idea what cut will work best these days, or how to style it on a daily basis.”
A keratin treatment expert, and therefore a frizz-control expert, Jordana Lorraine shares her tips and style suggests with Jessica.
Jordana Lorraine says:
Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl! Of course, caring for her and yourself leaves less time for hair care. While regular trims are important, your length will work in your favor when trying to control frizz. I would recommend medium-length layers, maybe more than you were used to; this will combat bulkiness and make your hair dry faster.
The look shown in the post, “Embrace Your Texture, Fight The Frizz“, was created with a curling iron, but since your hair is naturally wavy you can get a similar look by applying a smoothing serum, such as Citre Shine, and letting hair dry naturally, or in braids or buns. When you take the braids or buns out, you can let your waves tumble (they do this better with layers) and hold the front out of your face with a smaller braid like Carrie Underwood’s, or a headband or barrette.
