Get the Look: Makeup by MAC at LA Fashion Week

It’s no surprise that MAC Cosmetics made an appearance at the Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week hosted at Smashbox Studios! I personally wear several MAC products and have to admit, I love their ad campaigns! Their photography is brilliant and truly a work of art!

Led by Gregory Arlt of MAC Cosmetics, the makeup for the Kelly Nishimoto show was romance through and through. The models were made up beautifully with ultra-dewy goddess skin, blushing cheeks and lips that “look like she just ate the most delicious blackberries”. So pretty….! I listened in as Gregory walked the other MAC makeup artist through the “how-tos” then latched on to Southern California MAC trainer, Erika and Model Alex for a step-by-step breakdown of the runway look.

Here’s how they created the look:
1. Lip Conditioner to prep the lips for colour
2. Strobe Liquid- for an iridescent glow that softens the face and blurs imperfections
3. Face and Body Foundation- to provide long lasting and natural coverage
4. Charged Water- a powerfully protective hydrating mist to help defend the skin from environmental aggression. This was misted all over the face.
5. Cream Colour Base- the colour of SHELL was used on Alex. It’s an icy pinkish-beige color that made her skin glow beautifully! The cream was dabbed in with a finger tip under and around the eye, between the eyes, on the chin and under the nose. The girl had glow!
6. Set again with Charged Water.
7. Studio Stick Concealer on any imperfections (practically none)!
8. Select Sheer/Loose Powder- All over to set face.
9. Studio Stick Concealer under brow.
10. Eye Brows- brown pencil to fill in any empty spaces. It was a very natural brow.
11. Eyeshadow in Naked Lunch- a subtly pink shimmer- for all over color. Followed by Phloof- a frosted-off white. Phloof was applied just in the center of the eye above the pupil. These colors were perfect on Alex’s darker skin. I commented that they would never look that way on me and Erika said they’d just use a different combination of shimmers on fair skinned girls. MAC has about a zillion shadow colors so you are sure to find the right combination that is just right for you!
12. Blushcream in Posey- a dewy-fresh rosey pink. This was applied to the apples of the cheeks for sweet and sexy glow ( I’m told the look is inspired by “a roll in the hay”).
13. Pro Lash Mascara in Coal Black for long lashes. No false lashes were used.
14. Eye Kohl in Phone Number (a smudgy charcoal) on the inner rim of the lower lash line.
15. Eyeshadow applied with an angled brush at the root of the lashes on top and bottom. Color: Print- a muted grey flecked with shimmer.
16. Finish with a spritz of Charged Water.
17. Mattene Lipstick in Rougette for that “just ate berries” look. It was applied to “fade out at the ends”. The colour was blotted. It was also applied with the finger for the most natural look.
18. Finally, clear Lip Glass just in the middle of the lip for a very light sheen.

Gorgeous!
