I know many of you are sticking to your New Year’s resolution and you are getting your body back into shape! Maybe you joined to Fit Yummy Mummy Transformation Challenge (if not there is still time to join me in this adventure!) or you are faithful at going for your walks! Good for you. Now I want to ask you, “What are you wearing to workout in?” Are you pushing your baby’s stroller around the neighborhood in your super-sized baggy sweats? Are you wearing your husband’s XL t-shirt over your Lycra stretch shorts hoping your bottom won’t peak out? How come?
There are so many beautiful, sexy and functional options on the market today that you don’t need to settle for big and baggy! In fact, you should stop right now! Big and baggy only makes you feel that way! Toss out the stretched out and stained tees along with the saggy, baggy pants!
Here is what you want to shop for:
Wide-leg yoga pants. They are everywhere from Kmart to Nordstrom. They are flattering, comfortable and help you look longer and leaner. The ones with foldover waistbands (like shown above) are super for a little extra support on your waistline.
A great track suit that is fitted, not only in the waist but in length! This look is great for walks and will help get you out the door quicker to run errands since it’s so cute, you are ready to go! Yes, I know what you are thinking, you’ll never look like her in a track suit! I know, me either but guess what? I can still feel good about how I do look because I know I am wearing something that fits me, is soft on my skin and my husband will adore me in! This particular suit is available in sizes 0-18.
Tanks and Tees that are fitted and long enough. How annoying is it to wear a tank that sneaks up your body with every movement. Enough already! Buy some that are long and offer enough stretch to stay put while you workout!
Undergarments: A great workout bra is essential! Not only will it help with the bounce factor, it will hold your girls in and prevent side cleavage. Now, I know I’m going to get some comments about this one but mamas, wear your thong panties! Your new, adorable track suit is not going to look as good with visible panty lines! If you just can’t bring yourself to wear them, then go for seamless, it’s the next best option.
Footwear: With so many colorful and fun options in tennis shoes today, you better not being wearing the tennis shoes your grandmother would be wearing. Be adventurous, buy a pair with a little style to them! Enough said.

Great post! I’m a big fan of boot-cut yoga pants and now Target even sells long-inseam ones for us tall gals (by Champion, I think). I get extra-long t-shirts at Old Navy to work out in (the only problem is that they’re 100% cotton and therefore eventually look worn and stretched), but they’re cheap so I don’t feel bad tossing the old ones and getting new ones.
One thing I disagree with is your recommendation of thongs. I hate working out in thongs (way to uncomfortable for me), but I’ve found a great pair of boyshorts that are super comfortable and never give me panty lines. I actually wrote about my search for the “perfect” pair of underwear on my blog toay. Check it out @ http://www.thatcoolbroad.com/2008/02/25/searching-for-the-perfect-pair-of-underwear/
Thanks for mentioning my blog and for spotlighting cute workout wear options. I love the track suit and the yoga pants that you highlighted, but I have to agree with thatcoolbroad about working out in thongs (way too uncomfortable – I’d don’t like the “creeping” feeling when I’m running).
