Exclusive Interview with Purusha Rivera, Mom of Twins and Owner of My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear

Your Name: Purusha Rivera

How many children do you have? Their ages? I have 9 year old boy/girl twins

Your Business: My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear

Brief Description of Your Business: We sell a kit for expectant mothers to record their baby’s heartbeat in an adorable stuffed animal and create a unique pregnancy keepsake.

What was your inspiration to start your business? Doing Ultrasounds for 13 years has given me a chance to appreciate the 9 months a mother has to bond with her baby before birth. Listening to your baby’s heartbeat is always a highlight of the doctor’s visits and having the ability to take that wonderful sound home with you is priceless! Being able to share that sound with family and friends is just a bonus!

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule? Ugh! This is not easy! I find myself working as much as I can when the kids are at school or busy with friends so I can still give them the attention they desire. I still have them complain “Mom! Get off your phone!” quite often but they have gotten use to me telling them “I have to make a business call so please be quiet.”

Any tips for balancing a business and motherhood? I always remind myself one day my kids won’t want my attention or my hugs and kisses so I do my best to make them my first priority. Work will always be there tomorrow! If it can’t wait I try creative ways to involve them in what I’m doing and hope they’re learning by watching me work.

What is your favorite beauty product to bring along when you travel? I absolutely LOVE Clinique High Impact Mascara and it is a daily must for me!

Tell us about the outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful. I am definitely more of a comfort kind of girl and feel my best when wearing a nice pair of jeans, fancy blouse, and boots.

What is your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion? I just became a huge fan of Anthropologie.com

What motivates you to look your best? I have found that I am much more productive when I feel good and looking good definitely helps me feel good!

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? I try to keep a haircut that allows me to air dry while I’m running out the door.

Name one beauty product you can’t live without: Clinique High Impact mascara, for sure!

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair. I am currently in a Medical Boot for a foot injury and will be for some time so I’ve been living in flats! I really like being comfortable so heels are only for those special occasions.

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Do you have a favorite brand/color? I usually use both! My favorite lipstick right now is Chanel Rouge Coco in Magnolia. For gloss I use Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer 347.

Confession Time! What is your biggest fashion and/or beauty concern at the moment? Avoiding wrinkles (by using lots of sunscreen)!

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share: Confidence is key! When you look good you feel good and it shows!

Editor’s Note: I met Purusha at the pre-Golden Globe Boom Boom Room. When she shared with me the sound of a baby’s heart beat (a recording of expecting mom, Lyndsey from thelatchycatchy.com), my eyes filled with tears. It is beyond a doubt, the sweetest sound in the world. I wish I had a recording from each of my children when they were in the womb. If you are expecting or know someone who is, please give them this gift that will last a lifetime!  Nothing will soothe a mommy’s heart like the sound of her baby’s heart!
