Welcome to the world of Green Chic! It’s April, the month when everyone suddenly becomes aware of how to live green by recycling, going organic and using cloth diapers. Once May hits, nearly everyone has forgotten. It’s similar to the fitness phenomenon that occurs every January- it comes and goes with time. So how can you learn and continue to “GO GREEN” for life? Better yet, how can you learn to do it in style?!
I’ll tell you how to get started…pick up a copy of “Green Chic- Saving the Earth in Style” by Christie Matheson. Christie explains in this book “how to go green without giving up everything that you love.” She doesn’t expect you to give up your fabulous wardrobe for all things hemp, nor does she want you to give up your beauty routine as many “environmental types” will encourage you to do.
Here is a great excerpt from Chapter 5: “You can have a green(er) beauty regimen without sacraficing a bit of pretty, but only you will know what works for you and what you’re comfortable with. And there is a good chance that becoming more conscious of what you’re putting on your face and body, choosing healthier ingredients, and being aware of how important it is to take care of yourself will make you look better. ( I could say who cares about that because it’s what’s on the inside that counts, but let’s be real. We all want to look good.)” I say, “Amen, sister!” Christie assures us that even a beauty product junkie (can I see a raise of hands?) will find lots of healthy, earth-friendly alternatives!
Christie dedicates an entire chapter (Chapter 6) to “Green is the New Black”. She does not try to get you to unload your entire wardrobe in exchange for all green-wear. She admits that she won’t be wearing last season’s denim for the next eight seasons but does encourage you to be conscious of your choices when shopping. The chapter is stuffed to overflowing (not how your closet should be, btw…) with tips and strategies for editing your closet and shopping smart.
In an age where it’s only wise to be more ecofriendly (think about your kids and their future world!), this chic book is one compact little resource that will help you get to Green Chic one baby step at a time. Scoop it up, it’s worth the $12.95. Buy one for your girlfriends, too!
(** no trees were harmed in the making of this book as it was printed on 100 percent post-consumer waste recycled paper and vegetable-based ink was used for print! Talk about a woman who walks the walk!)
Win It! You can help me unload some of my own clutter… I have one extra copy of Green Chic that I’d love to give one of my readers! (I’d really love to give you ALL a copy but I’m not that resourceful!). You know what to do, leave a comment below and you are entered to win. Just for fun, why don’t you share one green tip to help educate the rest of us (optional)? Contest ends April 8 at midnight PST. Pass this link on to your friends for their chance to win!
*watch for lots of ecofriendly beauty and fashion tips, strategies and products this month!

sounds like an interesting book
This book sounds great. Thank you so much!
New to the going green, going organic way of life – so starting with recycling here. The book would be a great help. Thanks!!
I’m doing everything I can to go green so that there will still be a lovely, green earth for my daughter to enjoy as she grows up. This would be a wonderful book to learn more that I can do. Thanks!
Yes! Finally-being green without looking like you just crawled out of a dumpster! Thank you for this giveaway!
My green tip: Buy local foods and products from local farmers/vendors. That way there is less fossil fuel used to transport your items, you are keeping your local economy thriving and you are getting really fresh foods from your neighbors! We have joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in our area and we shop at the local farmers market every Saturday!
Need all the tips I can get.
I really want to make a change. i’ve been greening up the house so its the next natural step!
sounds like a good book
In my household, we donate all the plastic bags we get from the grocery store to our elementary school. There is a shop here that gives the school money for collecting them, so not only do we recycle, our school get’s something for it as well.
THANK YOU GOD BLESS

Change is always good.
Hook up all of your kitchen appliances to a strip outlet (that’s what they are called, right?) and then you can unplug it at night before you go to work or go to bed. Even if the appliance is turned off, it can still use electricity when it is plugged in. By plugging all your appliances into one strip outlet, you won’t have to go around the room unplugging everything.
I reuse all of my grocery bags for the next trip to the store. Please count me in.
Please enter me! We buy “bar towels” from the dollar store and use those instead of paper napkins.
My green tip is using the leftover water from hard boiling eggs (once it cools) to water houseplants-it saves water and gives plants an easily absorbed form of calcium. Fun contest!
I’d love to read this! Please enter me!
We’re trying to be more green here. I bought a reusable bag from Target (which is really neat because it folds up and has a little button snap to keep it folded. I keep it in my purse for my little “run-in” trips where I only buy 3 or 4 things. I also try to remember to tell the cashier I don’t need a bag if I’m only buying one or two items that are easy to carrey out to the car.
sounds like a good read

I started recycling in the 70′s. We had a garden, compost piles, saved water, replaced light bulbs, and now replacing old appliances with energy star appliances. I am always looking for more ways to recycle. Would love to win.
Please enter me. I would like to win. thanks.
Nice Prize
just to cool
We would LOVE to have a copy.. I could use the help on living more green friendly!
I blogged your contest to Prize-A-Tron!

I recycle everything I can and I reduce how much energy I am using as much as I can. Thanks for the contest!
Thanks so much for the book tip! I can’t wait to read it! I went green last year on Earth Day, and it has been the BEST decision I have ever made. I not only feel amazing about what I am doing, I share it with whoever will listen. If I can change the way one person feels about the environment, it will just trickle on down! I recycle, I changed all of my light bulbs, I bought all natural cleaning, laundry, and dishwasher products, I turn off powerstrips when I leave the house, I use canvas bags out shopping, am a member of Green Dimes, buy organic fair-trade coffee, and am always looking for new things. It not only helps the environment, but decreases my energy bill by 30 dollars every month! Once you make the decision to go green, it will be the best thing you can do for your family and yourself.
this sounds like a great book, i’ve been wanting to go greener without giving up everything i love~
I think I need this so I can teach my children how to waste less and make better use of their things. I enjoyed reading all the tips contributed in the comments. Thanks, Kathy
i would love to become greener, i want to help save the world!
I’m really starting to get excited about changing how I do things and going more green. I have to admit I could use some pointers and tips on how to do it. The only thing I do consistently and have been for as long as I can remember is recycle. I’d love to learn more from the book.
Thank you for the chance to win this.
Non toxic cleaning supplies and “free” laundry detergents!

We’re trying to go green. We started with recycling.
Bicycle in the nice weather instead of a petrol vehicle.
I would love to read this to help me further in going green!
I have been researching green products, energy, etc and this would be perfect for me!
we have always been a green family but this would be a great way to help us leave a smaller footprint
I recycle everything. I only have a bag of trash about every 3 months, only what can’t be recycled. This keeps less trash in the landfills.
I would love to check out this book. It sounds great.
