In today’s LA Times Image Section, the feature story was “Drugstore Beauty Challenge“.
Quote from the article:
“With traditional drugstore brands incorporating high-end innovations in low-cost product lines, the drugstore is becoming the H&M of the cosmetics world for everyday makeup.”
I don’t know about you but drugstore brands have been the core products in my makeup bag since I started wearing makeup in eighth grade! While I definitely have some brand name favorites available at Sephora or department stores, drugstore brands remain a part of my daily beauty routine.
LA Times sent professional makeup artist Craig Beaglehole and LA Times writer Melissa Magsaysay to a West Hollywood CVS to to try out low-price brands in store and test them for a week. Here are their top picks for “Definite Keepers”:

In the end, they were suprised to find so many “Definite Keepers”! “Beaglehole’s top picks — products he says he’d use on clients — were Maybelline Lash Stiletto and L’Oréal Extra Collagen mascaras. “When I find a great mascara, I don’t care about the price point. As long as it doesn’t budge and it really works.” He also plans to add the L’Oréal Color Juice lip glosses to his makeup kit to give clients (his include Toni Collette, Elle Macpherson and Lori Loughlin) a super shiny pout for the red carpet.”
All of these products can be purchased at CVS and other drugstore chains.
