Creating the Perfect Vivid Lip

Spring after spring, the seasonal lip color of choice is predictably pink or coral. This year, add red to the mix. Whatever your color choice, make it vibrant!

To brighten up your lip, follow these key steps:

  1. Exfoliate: you can’t have beautiful look-at-me lips if they are dry and chapped.  Use a soft toothbrush to softly brush to gently buff your lips.  Apply a matte lip balm once lips are smooth.
  2. Apply Foundation to your lips: The foundation will help your lip color appear more vibrant.
  3. Apply lip liner: Follow the outer line of your lips with a clear lip liner to prevent feathering.  Using a clear liner will save you time and money, allowing you to use the liner with multiple lip colors.
  4. Apply vivid lip color with a lip brush.  Apply in short strokes, filling your lip in completely.
  5. Blot then powder.  Use a talc based powder to set your lip color.
  6. Reapply.
  7. Smile and confidently go get started on your day.

While I am a nude gloss kinda of girl, it was fun to have a fresh lip color to play with! Not sure if you are ready for vivid lip color? As one shy about vivid girl to another, all I can say is, try it for a day. It’s like any new fashion or beauty trend, you have to give it a fair trial run to see if it’s the right fit for you. Since lipstick is inexpensive, you won’t be making a huge investment. The worst that will happen is you’ll pass the color on to a friend if you ultimately decide it’s not right for you.

Vivid lip color can brighten up your business suit, work scrubs or casual day wear. It can also be the finishing touch for your date night look. One product can really change your look! Give it a try!

I used Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color SPF 16 in Pink Punch. The formula is super moisturizing! You won’t be disappointed! The line also has a gorgeous Vivid Coral! Available at Target.

When you use the toothbrush to buff you lips, is it with a dry toothbrush and dry lips? Or do you need to wet the toothbrush? I never thought of this as a way to exfoliate my lips and have always used expensive lip masks. This way seems much more cost effective.

Great question Audrey! The optimal time is fresh out of the shower, when your lips are soft from the steam. The toothbrush can be dry, just make sure you are using a “soft” one and you apply gentle pressure. :)

I never would have thought of using a toothbrush to buff my lips or talc powder to set my lipstick! These are some great tips! I’m so excited to try them out on my new set of lipsticks that I got in honor of spring.
