Chinos: From Frumpy to Fun

I was asked by Land’s End to “show my style” wearing chinos. A couple of years ago, I never would have accepted the challenge. You see, after I had my son 11 years ago, I decided I’d embrace the “classic, preppy style” that grown up women wear. It didn’t work out for me. I felt frumpy.

As I’ve grown in my style and confidence, I’ve learned that I can incorporate most any wardrobe piece and make it my own, fitting my current style preference. I was eager to take on the challenge!

I thought it would be fun to show you the frumpy and not so frumpy way to wear chinos:

I paired my most basic tank with a flat, black belt, ballet flats and a brown purse for the frumpy look.  This look is not my style and makes me feel invisible.

While every piece in this outfit is amazing in it’s own right, putting them together to create this look is just uninteresting. The biggest mistake I see women making in putting together an outfit is pairing a basic tee with just about anything. (I personally don’t even own basic tees anymore. I want detail like sequins, ruffles or graphics that give the tee some interest. )  The fabulous chinos from Lands End lack excitement.

To contrast, I added a few key wardrobe pieces to make my outfit far more exciting!

Shake out the hair, kick up the heels…THIS is a fabulous look! By adding a sweater, heels, layers of jewelry and a colored handbag, the chinos now are the anchor of a fun outfit!  It looks so much more stylish and has personality!  Whoo Hoo!

Keep in mind when you add basics like chinos from Lands End, you have plenty of freedom to play up your look!  You will still look classy but your personality will shine!

Lands End has a variety of chino styles…for a style a little less “basic,”  try the Fit2 Ankle Chino Pant in a variety of colors.
