Chic Maternity Inspiration for the Non-Preggers!

Fashion inspiration is everywhere! I always say that and do believe it! You can find a great look or something to inspire an outfit in so many great places!

A hair salon is certainly not an UNexpected place to find great fashion. In the hip salons, stylists are typically on the cutting edge of fashion. (Sometimes a little too much black but hip, none-the-less! ) With this in mind, I should not have been surprised to find fashion inspiration a few weeks ago while getting my hair done. I was surprised by WHO inspired me…one of the pregnant stylists! ( I say ONE of because there are several in the salon that I go to)

Not that pregnant women are not stylish. Many are but it is typical to see loose fitting tops that cover the belly. This stylist mom-to-be was likely the cutest pregnant woman I have ever seen. Seriously. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, which is kind of rude, but I couldn’t help it. I wanted to soak in her hair, makeup and clothes so that I could remember them to share with you. Had I been more bold, I would have asked for a picture with her!

The Hair. I told my stylist, “THAT is how I want my hair!” After years of layers, which I’ve told you about, I long for past the shoulder one length hair (with just the ends slightly layered) with bangs. Her bangs ROCKED. To top off the hair cut and FABulous blond color, she had a hint of hot pink hair peeking through one side. (I have even considered the pink for myself though my “peek of color” would likely be a red that was a removable piece! It’s so rock ‘n roll and a ton of fun!)

Hair similar to how sexy mom Jamie Pressly wears her hair here. Minus the front layers, plus the peek-a-boo color.

The Makeup. Very subtle but so very pretty! Her face was dewy so she probably used a luminizing product like Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion.

Her eye makeup was all about the pastels. Urban Decay Metal Eye Sheen is a good product to consider for a pastel eye. Follow with at least two coats of mascara to add definition to the eye.

The Clothes. She wore black cargo pants, a black maternity band, fitted white tee with scoop neck collar line and a black vest. Her shoes were simple black ballet flats. So cute! I went out and bought a black vest the first chance I got. The outfit was simple. I mean, really simple but that is what made it so chic! The success of her outfit was the tee. The outfit could have had a totally different look if she had chosen to wear a “tent style” maternity tee. Instead she wore a fitted tee and the outfit was brilliant.

If you see someone who is dressed in a way that you admire, do what I did, and stare (try not to be obvious). Absorb the pieces so you’ll remember and can duplicate the look yourself. Who cares if she is pregnant and you are not? Who cares if she if one Fit Yummy Mummy and you have a few pounds to lose? You won’t look the same as her in the outfit but you can take the elements that you like and make them your own! Inspiration is everywhere!

Okay, I love this! I’ve done the same thing with a beyond-cute pregnant hairstylist at my old salon. She, of course, was wearing the black… but everything was fitted, she wasn’t hiding her adorable tummy, and her hair and makeup were AWESOME. Bright red lips… she was a doll.

I have to remember to try to stay looking good, even though I feel like a cow, haha. Thanks for the great post. :)

Yes! It is hard to feel HOT when preggers, it takes extra effort…but it just the beginning of the changes…your “me” time will reduce, your sleep will reduce and your fun money will reduce (you’ll be paying for adorable baby clothes instead!) so start now while pregnant and get into the routine of KEEPING yourself on your priority list. Plus…it will just make you feel better to look cute!

I like the hair too! You and I would probably do well with that haircut. Just can’t spend a lot of time blowing it out everyday.
