Beautiful Change Challenge: Gratefulness and Giving Back

On the final day of April 2012, I’m wondering what changes you’ve made this Earth month to make your world a cleaner, safer place? Just because it is the end of the month, you don’t have to stop or neglect starting some new eco-friendly changes!

Let’s take a look at a few idea:

Volunteer to help clean up the parks
Plant flowers and trees at a nursing home to bring beauty to the world of the elderly
Petition to have more recycling cans in your community, at the malls, in the parking lots of local businesses
Start a book drive, donate books to schools and public libraries
If you own a business, are you a green business? What can you improve upon? Pay bills online? Stop printing so many emails? Are you recycling at the office (even if your office is in your home)?
Teach your children to conserve energy by turning off lights
Teach your children to conserve water by taking shorter showers
Plant cabbage and other beautiful vegetables for landscape and for cooking with!

I also want you to think about making a switch to beauty products that embrace the cause of a cleaner world! ‘To Write Love On Her Arms’ Celebrates Six Year Anniversary

Have you heard of the non-profit “To Write Love On Her Arms?” It’s beautiful. Really beautiful. It started six years ago by some guys trying to raise money for a friend’s treatment to heal from depression, addiction, attempted suicide and self-injury. She is “more alive and closer to death than anyone I’ve known,” says the organizations Vision page. Out of love, out of hope, out of dedication “To Write Love on Her Arms” was born.

The vision of the men who started this is really beautiful and I just have to share:

“You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you’re part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters.”

The website goes on to say:

“The vision is the restoration of broken families and broken relationships. The vision is people finding life, finding freedom, finding love. The vision is graduation, a Super Bowl, a wedding, a child, a sunrise. The vision is people becoming incredible parents, people breaking cycles, making change.”

The vision is hope, and hope is real.

To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. Since its start in 2006, they have donated over $1,000,000 directly into treatment and recovery and have answered over 160,000 emails from over 100 countries.

I can totally get behind an organization like that, can’t you? I wish that my brother, who passed away over 10 years ago from depression and addiction, had an support system like this.
