The Brains Behind the Beauty of the HP Vivienne Tam Mini

hpvt_bannerI’ve been toting the HP Vivienne Tam Mini Notebook with me wherever internet is available.  It’s been quite fun hearing others ooh and ahh over it!  I feel so special in the presence of such a fabulous piece of technology!

We all know how important it is to carry the right accessories to complete an outfit and this digital clutch is “right” every time! Now, I tend to focus on the beauty of the notebook as I am far less tech savvy than most (OK, all…) of my fellow reviewers involved in this word of mouth campaign but I will do my best to speak intelligently regarding the “brains” behind this beauty.

  • To start, the keyboard is very comfortable for such a small computer.  The keyboard is 92% scale, meaning it is nearly a full-sized keyboard!  It’s an adjustment if you are used to working on your home computer but it’s by far more comfortable and efficient than a Blackberry or iPhone for emailing or creating documents!  It would be great for HP to add a backlight on the keyboard in future product improvements.
  • You can transfer digital photos directly with the integrated memory card reader (accepts the two most popular formats).  This is really nice because when you spot the perfect pair of Red High Heels you can snap a picture and email it to your hubby as a hint for what to get you for Valentine’s Day!  The image will be full size, not cell-phone mini.
  • Stay in touch on the go.  Obviously this is important!  If you blog, this is the best tool for your business!  Not only will it catch the attention of everyone, and who knows who you’ll meet, but it is so light (just 2.45 lb. and a mere 1″ thick) that you don’t feel like you are hauling around a baby on your hip!
  • Built in webcam is handy for face-to-face chats and picture taking.  I’ve found the imaging to be too dark to use for tutorials.  There are ways to adjust the webcam settings to help correct it but it’s still not great.
  • The super high gloss paint used on the clutch to make it look so FAB also attracts fingerprints.  Keeping a soft cloth to wipe it down is a must or you may find people asking you if you let your child play with it.
  • Being that I am such a newbie to laptops (I use my hubby’s when I have to but I swear, that computer has it out for me!), I really had no idea about the accessories involved in making it a computer I want to work on all the time.  With guidance from several people, I found that I needed a portable CD/DVD reader so I could load programs on the notebook.  I now have my beloved SnagIt program, Word (now I can work on it without internet too!) and Zoom Browser loaded.  I feel like I can get some serious work done on the VT now!  For you, if you want to search the web, email or interact on your social network then you won’t need to add any extra programs.  The notebook comes installed with Microsoft Windows XP.

While you should carefully consider before investing in the HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition Notebook, I want you to think of it as the same type of investment a designer purse would be.  You get the brand, the beauty and the function at a higher price but the investment is a long term one.  You won’t be trading in your Gucci Handbag anytime soon, nor will you be trading your VT in anytime soon!  You’ll love it forever and pass it on to your daughter when she is old enough to take good care of it!

Congratulations to you for being lucky enough to get one to review! I would put up with a lot in order to use this laptop on a regular basis though. My phone can do a lot but sometimes something a wee bit bigger would be nice to carry around with me.

You would L-O-V-E it, Carla! It’s the perfect size to carry around. It’s so light and thin and way better than a phone!!
