Benefit is launching three, new fragrances in July, called the Crescent Row collection. Why it’s associated with Crescent Row, I’ll never really understand and neither will the American consumer. The press kit looks like three different marketing mood boards (one for each fragrance) of a flat in Bath, Englands Crescent row (could anything be less relevant) which doesn’t really resonate with the consumer. Each fragrance has a different personality, we get it! Memo to Benefit – all we care about is the finished product. Luckily for you, it doesn’t disappoint.
First of all, the artwork on these bottles is second to none – totally eye catching and makes me so curious as to what’s inside. This is exactly what a fragrance should do. My favorite of the trio is “Something about Sofia.” It’s a sweetly powdery gourmand fragrance that incorporates base notes of caramel, musk and vanilla, which is basically what stands out to me. It smells like a well-groomed, successful urban business professional in her early thirties. In fact, I want to be this woman (except for the thirties part – I’m only 27).
My next favorite is “My Place or Yours Gina,” which is a sexy and sultry woody oriental. The star of this blend is the base of patchouli, which I smelled immediately and will no doubt be present in the drydown. Other notes include pink pepper, bergamot, tangerine, peony, wild raspberry, white lily, tonka bean and vanilla. They woman who wears this fragrance has a bit of an edge (or at least, she wants you to think she does).
Lastly, “Laugh with me LeeLee” has the prettiest package graphics(shown above), but the most disappointing fragrance. It reminds me of a toy fragrance that I got when I was five years old (which was likely a duplication of a fine fragrance classic, but for me it just has that juvenile association). Described as a woody floral, the fragrance features citrus (which you smell immediately), black violet, lily and jasmine along with blond woods, amber and santal notes. It’s the most “perfumy” of the trio and while I might wear it on occasion, I certainly wouldn’t pay for something that smells like that.
As for packaging, these fragrances seem to be packaged in martini shakers, while nothing about the fragrance gives any allusions to alcohol or cocktails. That’s weird to me and I’m not sure I want a martini shaker sitting on my dresser, but 2 of these fragrances are beautiful gems that are worthy of your attention. Check them out when they launch, this July!
