A Busy Mom’s Concerns
By Tammy | May 13, 2008
One of my Posh Mama friends expresses her concern for her lack of “beauty savvy”. I think she speaks for a lot of moms when she states this:
My typical getting ready in the morning routine consists of:
three minute shower
pull my (still wet) hair back into pony tail
brush on a quick application of cheap, sticky mascara
smear on some tinted chapstick
dash out the door…late for preschool drop-off, once againAnd…
I think my three major hurdles are:
1) having no time to committ to myself
2) being nervous about looking “too made up”. I am a less-is-more kinda’ gal…and wouldn’t feel right weighed down w/ too many layers of color, etc. on my skin.
3) I have extremely sensitive skin…to the point I have to use products such as Cetaphil, Burt’s Bees, etc.
So, there you have it…I’m a non-primper trying to navigate in a dolled up world!
My reply is this:
You are really a very typical busy woman when it comes to the concerns you listed!
1. Time is a huge factor in taking care of yourself. You simply have to make the time! 5 extra minutes in the AM means getting up earlier or getting more organized at night so you have time in the AM. Try showering at night, blowdry and style hair at night so you only have to fluff and add a curl or two to freshen it up in the morning. Never skip your skin care in the AM. Your minimum morning makeup should be a tinted moisturizer with SPF( a busy mom’s best friend- a multitasking product!), mascara and gloss (not Chapstick!). Have a bit more time? Add an all over eye color and bronzer to cheeks and temples.
2. I think you’ll agree that you won’t feel “too made up” with the routine above. For a brunch with the girls or date with hubby you can add more to your makeup for a more polished look.
3. You’ve found some good products for your skin. Look for certified organic products. They will be easier on your skin than those products using man-made chemicals! Once you find a product you like, stick with it and try others in the same line! Keep you skin care routine consistent with good products and you should be able to maintain healthy skin. Healthy skin means less “cover up” with foundation, concealer, etc so you can again avoid that made up feeling.
Finally, remember that cosmetics are fun and temporary. Don’t take them so seriously! You don’t have to look like the covergirl model to look beautiful! A little contouring and highlighting with some product only brings out a better you
If you don’t like it, wash it off! Sephora is a great place to sample products before committing to buy!
