It’s that time of year, moms! The sun starts shining a little more. You feel warmth in the air. You know it’s time to get busy and get fit in time for swim suit season! With spring break just around the corner, you need to get started now to see results for pool time!
I asked friend, fitness guru-blogger and mom of 2 to fill us in on what we need to do to get our bodies looking lovely for the fabulous swimwear we’ll be packing for vacation this year!
“Hi A Mom in Red High Heels Readers!
It’s a pleasure to be guest posting here today! Tammy and I are old college buddies and it’s been great keeping track of each other via blogging.
A little background on me:
I have been an athlete my entire life! If I wasn’t running, I was cycling and if I wasn’t doing either one of those things, I was in the garage lifting weights or doing yoga. Now, I am an avid cross fitter here in our town of Redlands, and it’s only been in the last three months that my abs are beginning to make an appearance! At thirty eight years old, I’m just now teaching myself the proper techniques for getting leaner- and it isn’t coming from all the sweat….it’s coming from the kitchen.
- Cut the sugar out of your diet. Cut it out of your coffee drinks! Just two raw sugars add up to a lot of carbohydrates! A Mocha Frappachino yields 380 calories- that’s a lot of “extra”!!
- Have the chocolates, wine, and beer for a weekend treat- it shouldn’t be a daily thing.
- Instead of salad dressings, make your own with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
- Have fruit for dessert.
- Skip the pasta, bread and rice at dinner and replace with vegetables. Your plate should be 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 protein.
Trust me when I say that this has taken me a long time to learn and I’m still learning! You can make small changes to your diet and get big results. Having an incredibly clean, colorful diet can make a difference to feeling better and getting leaner.”
More from Rachel on this topic coming soon. In the meantime, cut back your sugar intake, eat more veggies and read Rachel’s blog, Fit Mom’s Blog, for fitness inspiration!

Simple tips that I should seriously consider. I’m not an athlete and I guess the road to flat abs is harder for me.
Thinking that the road to flat abs is really in changing the diet. I can’t tell you how many years I spent sweating for 2 hours or more five days a week and still not have any abs to show for it!

I too have just discovered this! I learned by participating in a healthy eating challenge at work – our challenge was to eat 7-8 servings of vegetables and fruit every day for 4 weeks. I lost close to 5lbs the second week! I also have way more energy for my training and recover faster! I was so impressed with the results that I’m hosting my own Healthy Challenge for the next 4 weeks on my site!
