Meet Maya Love Coppola of Maya C’s Very Cool Jewels

    By Tammy | June 30, 2008

    Your Name: Maya Love Coppola

How many children do you have? One

Your Business Name: Maya C.’s Very Cool Jewels

    Brief Description of Your Business:
Funky urban-bohemian jewelry for the very hip lady

When do you make time to run a business with your busy MOM schedule?
I never waste a minute and often do five things at once. Sound familiar?

What is your favorite beauty tip?
Drink lots and lots of good ol’ plain water. And I use olive oil in my hair. Lately I’ve been infusing it with herbal extracts so I don’t smell like salad!

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion?
First and foremost my mother taught me that beauty comes from within and that if you feel beautiful, you usually look beautiful too. She never wears make up, even now and there’s not a wrinkle on her face. She also had her own unique style which taught me that women who have their own style are always in fashion.

What beauty/fashion tips will you be sure to share with your daughter, niece or neighbor girl as she grows?
I will tell my daughter sooner than I want to (I’m sure): Don’t wear too much make up…it ruins the skin and hides the real you. And don’t let fashion and fad dictate how you dress. Have your own style, be your own person and if something that’s in fashion suits your personality and personal style then by all means…wear it!

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why?
Wow, that’s a tough one….but the truth is I like to keep it simple even when I am getting decked out. Less is more. So I guess I would have to say…I have this black straight hip hugger skirt that goes to just above the knee and is form fitting without being tight. I wear this with a tight black tank top, strapless wooden heels, and a funky belt in the summer with big sunglasses and big bag, of course. In the winter, the skirt stays the same but I wear tights, black skinny heel boots and a black form fitting turtle neck. The look is so easy breezy and its comfortable. AND…I feel like an Italian movie star!

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion?
I usually only shop for things I already know online because I am a real stickler for how things fit and how things feel and prefer to shop for new things in person. But of the things I know, I love shopping for Custo Barcelona shirts online and Calypso. Of course I always check to see if I can get a good deal on these things via ebay first.

What motivates you to look your best?
Really, it depends on my mood on any given day…and the weather. In the winter, good luck getting me motivated beyond 40 below zero boots and my snow suit…even for a wedding!!!

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? Keep an icepack in the freezer to put on tired eyes in the morning. Skip putting on three pounds of make up. Number one, you don’t need it. Number two, you don’t have the time to put it on anyway. Drink water throughout the day. It doesn’t take time out of your life and actually, it will make your skin look younger. Oh and moisturize with a perfume-free, preferably natural, moisturizer.

Name one product you can’t live without: Pantene Restoratives Conditioner. I don’t know what they put in that stuff (not sure I want to know) but BOY does it work!!!

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair.
That’s easy, definitely heels. Every kind. Especially boots. But not too high. Too high is just ridiculous. I like flats too but when I do flat its usually Converse.

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Which brand/color?
Lip gloss. Any kind really. But the cheaper ones do the trick and keep money in your purse. Oh and coconut oil from the health food store is great too.

Any additional comments on beauty and style you’d like to share: Be YOU!!! Its the best beauty tip I can think of.

Editor’s Note: I “met” Maya while preparing for It’s Mom’s Nite. I had the opportunity to chat with her on the phone and via email several times. She is a single mom, raising her daughter, creating beautiful jewelry and being true to herself. What an inspiration! Thanks for sharing your fashion and beauty tips, Maya! (Isn’t she GORGEOUS?!)

Readers, I checked out the Custo Barcelona brand- WAY COOL! I love the vibrant colors and designs used on their apparel! Take a peak, maybe you’ll fall in love!
