Confidence!
By Tammy | May 11, 2008
” I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little- if only our of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” ~ Coco Chanel

I recently had a great conversation with Holly Rigsby, author of Fit Yummy Mummy. We were preparing a recording for her new Yummy Mummy Makeover in which you can receive 13 FREE recordings from experts in various areas of life. I was proud to be included as the brains behind the beauty topic! In our discussion, we looked at why a woman needs to take care of her appearance. We also looked at what the Nay-Sayers talk about…that true beauty is on the inside (true) and it doesn’t matter what one looks like on the outside (false). In our discussion, Holly and I kept coming back to one word: Confidence.
You see, confidence comes from knowing you look your best (no comparing to others here! YOU look YOUR best…well groomed, neat, modern). Confidence comes from being focused on the task at hand, not on what you are wearing because it’s bothering you, not on your makeup (or lack of) for fear it’s done incorrectly, not on your hair because you are painfully aware that it is a mess, not on your nails because you are afraid to shake someone’s hands due to the chipped polish and unsightly cuticles, not on your breath or pits for fear of bad oder…the list can go on and on. Confidence comes when you take care of yourself properly so that you can take care of your family, chores, tasks of the day. Still not convinced?
Hannah Keeley’s Total Mom Makeover talks about this very topic. In Week Two, Day Four titled “Dump the Frump”, Hannah shares this:
“People often show how they feel about themselves through their appearances. When you frump around looking like something the dog dragged in, you show that you don’t have a great amount of respect for yourself. Sure there are days when you only leave the house to take out the trash, but appearance and self-esteem go hand in hand. When you look good, you feel good.
…When you feel good, you get more done. When you get more done, you feel even better. This is a cycle you definitely want to get caught up in! Now think about the other side of the coin. When you look bad, you feel bad. When you feel bad, you are not motivated to do anything. When you don’t get anything done, you feel even worse. It’s a no-brainer. The first option is, by far, the best. Anything that you can do to get yourself motivated is a worthwhile investment.
Boosting your appearance will definitely boost your motivation and heaven knows, moms can use all the motivation they can get. Dressing well from head to toe puts you in top form for the day ahead.”
Still on the fence about taking care of your appearance? Then do a little experiment this week. Commit to getting ready everyday this week. Yep, 7 days of hair, makeup and stylish, fitted attire. See how you feel at the end of the week. Was your week more productive? Did you feel more confident? Did you spend less time worrying about how you looked once you were ready for the day? I’d love to hear your stories of success because I believe you will find success in this 7 day experiment. Leave a comment. Share your stories!

I definitely find this to be true! When I sleep in, stay in my jammies longer, etc. I feel more like just sitting and doing nothing. When I make the effort to get up & get ready and look presentable, I feel so much more like getting other things accomplished!!!
