Meet Miranda, Pop/Soul Singer and Mom

    By Tammy | March 31, 2008

    Miranda

    Your Name: Miranda

How many children do you have? One little girl, Adessa, born January, 2007

Your Business Name: Seranova and FISHERS ARTISTS AGENCY

Brief Description of Your Business: I am the singer of a pop/soul band that travels about 6 months a year doing concerts in the U.S.A. and Europe. When I am home I spend my time in the recording studio recording my own albums, lending my vocals to other projects (http://www.empcds.com/solace-iman.html), or writing songs for other artists. I also co-own Fishers Artists Agency that handles the scheduling for 30 other bands.

You are on the road a large portion of the year, share with us your biggest struggles with fashion and beauty on the go? While on the road my biggest struggle is the fact that I must pack as little as possible since space is limited in our tour RV. I usually bring about a week and a half worth of clothes and then do laundry each week. For the past 10 years I’ve had to find laundromats while on theWonder Wash road but this past year I discovered a product that allows me to wash my clothes in the privacy of my own motor home! It’s called a “wonderwash” and it is a hand cranked washing machine. It actually washes the clothes extremely well and has made my life much more convenient while traveling.

What are your best tips and tricks that you’ve learned about beauty and fashion on the road? Before each trip I lay out exactly 10 outfits including some for performances as well as a few for comfortable drive days. I hang each outfit on it’s own hanger and attach a ziploc bag holding the accessories (earrings, necklace, etc.) that correspond to that outfit. It helps me stay organized and also makes getting ready super fast…important when you have a baby to get ready as well! I also bring only my favorite makeup items rather than bringing my whole collection that way if I see something I love while on tour I’ll have room to buy it and take it home with me! I also pack all my baby’s outfits in gallon sized ziploc bags. That way I don’t lose little socks and hats and getting her dressed is a cinch.

What has been the best place you’ve shopped while touring? Italy. Nothing beats Italy because I can buy a really great pair of shoes or a coat there inexpensively and it will be fashionable for a very long time. The U.S. seems to be about a year or two behind the European fashion trends so it makes me feel as if I’m on the cutting edge of fashion when I come back home. Silly, I know, but it makes my day! New York City is also a very close second on the great shopping front.

Any international products you can’t live without? I love the pretty hand crafted hats that they make in Europe. I believe they are mainly Moroccan immigrants who make them and you can buy them all along the streets in England, Germany, and Italy. I always buy several hats and matching scarves to bring home for myself and as gifts because they are so beautiful.

How does touring affect your skin? You travel to many different climates. Is that hard on your beautiful, porcelain skin? Ha! I wish I had beautiful porcelain skin but I must say that underneath my Bare Minerals foundation my skin absolutely suffers from all the traveling. Between altitude changes, water differences, ever changing climates and lots of eating out, my skin often vacillates between being super oily to dry and frequently breaks out. I also have lots of allergies and have found that Neutrogena products work best for me. I drink as much water as possible and also wear sunblock EVERY day.DDF Sunblock

What is your favorite beauty tip? DDF Sunblock SPF 30! I wear it every single day and I love it! It has helped my skin so much and even reduced the amount of breakouts I get. It is more expensive than the drug store brands but one bottle lasts me 6 to 9 months.

What did your mother teach you about beauty and fashion? “Pretty is as pretty does”. While my Mother is a serious fashionista she is also extremely talented, smart, funny, and caring. She used to tell my sister and I that no matter how attractive we may be on the outside it matters very little in comparison to what we are in our hearts. A very pretty girl can certainly be quite unattractive is she is mean, selfish, and inconsiderate to others. She was right.

You have a daughter, what tips will you be sure to share with her as she grows? I want her to find her worth from within. While makeup, clothes, and fashion are great fun I would love for her to see that being outwardly beautiful is just the icing on the cake.

What is your favorite outfit in your closet and why? Right now I love my Wide leg Jeans from Old Navy and a dark grey Turtleneck. Makes me feel like an artsy girl from the 70s.

What’s your favorite online site to shop for beauty or fashion? Ulta

What motivates you to look your best? When I don’t look my best then I feel as if I’m having a sick day.

As a mom, “Me Time” is limited… what are your time saving beauty tips? I take my shower at night and get my hair done before bed. In the morning I only have to spend a few minutes fixing it and putting on makeup.

Name one product you can’t live without: Flat iron. My hair is a wild mess without it.

Heels or flats? Describe your favorite pair. I love the way heels look but my feet can’t handle it so I opt for wedges. I have a pair I love that are dark cork soles with blue jean skinny straps. They look cute with jeans or with casual skirts and Clinique Glossdresses. They are also comfy!

Lip gloss or Lip Stick? Which brand/color? Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss, any color.

Editor’s Note: I went to high school with Miranda and haven’t seen her since 1989! We randomly met up when she and her husband played at my church a few months ago…talk about flash back! I was a little (COMPLETELY) embarrassed that I didn’t recognize her! Miranda looks amazing and so stylish! I remember her being beautiful back then and that certainly has not changed :) She has so many stories to share about her experiences on the road and now she and her husband are on the road with their adorable daughter! Be sure to check out Miranda’s site to hear clips of her beautiful voice and upcoming dates to see if they will be playing near you!

Miranda, thanks for sharing your fashion and beauty secrets with us! Ladies, now you know how to pack efficiently for a road trip!

Thank you for all your tips about inner and outer beauty Miranda! You lead a very interesting life and Adessa is adorable. I love the picture of you two! You look so pretty with your side ponytail holding your bundle of joy. Your Mom had the right idea about what is truly important about beauty. I hope that we can all teach those things to our daughters.
