Pieces for Mom-to-Be and Beyond
By Tammy | October 18, 2007
Have you always thought it ridiculous that a woman should have to buy an entirely new wardrobe for pregnancy? Now, I love to shop and am happy to add pieces to my wardrobe but some of my maternity pieces I really loved and wasn’t able to wear again once my last child showed her adorable face.
Designers have finally listened to what women want: pieces that transition! Since my last child, I have discovered pieces that I love…and wear…that are designed for maternity AND beyond! If you are currently pregnant, I highly recommend you buy some of these items. They will become favorites that you don’t have to pass on to the newest preggo in your crowd (but she’ll be begging you to so be prepared!).
Maternity/ Nursing Cardigan- This piece is highly fashionable and versatile. I am neither pregnant nor nursing and I love mine. The extra length on the sleeves are my favorite feature! It is unique and can be dressed up or dressed down. Wear it as an open cardigan or an adorable wrap sweater. You’ll love it for discreet nursing.![]()
Mini-Dot Lounge Pants- Ultra comfy and soft. A great transition piece that will have you lounging in comfort and style! (This item is on clearance in 4 great colors!)
Maternity Belly Bands- these babies are designed for maternity and beyond! Not only do they help when your
pants just won’t snap closed (admit it, it happens to all of us!) but they are great for adding length to your tops! I like to wear mine under a tee that it is just skimming my waist line so that when I have to bend over, my lower back isn’t peeking out. They make a nice “security blanket” when you are sitting in the itty-bitty chairs in your child’s classroom: No peek-a-boo skin or panties here!
As mentioned in a previous post, if you bought maternity tees that were long, slim and sexy, you’ll be able to wear them again and again post pregnancy. They are designed with a bit of stretch so they won’t lose their shape. If you are currently pregnant, find tees that have a neutral design or celebrate motherhood in general. You won’t want to be wearing a baby girl symbol on your belly after your angel has arrived!
Get creative! Shop for pieces that will transition with you into your new role as Mommy! If you are not pregnant nor expecting to become pregnant, don’t be afraid to check out the maternity sites for pieces that will work well for you. When your friends ask where you got that fabulous piece, just smile. It’s our little secret!

I want to praise the belly band as a pregnancy must have. I found this item of clothing to be heaven sent. I have been with child 4 times and have not gained a pound in the bottom area
but just my belly and this item allowed me to continue to where my pre-prego pants well into my 8th month and it kind of gave me a bit of support, I loved it!!!! Again I can only say great, great things about this item a must, must have.
